Why does my cat sleep at my feet?

Every night or so, it's the same thing: your cat settles comfortably on your bed, at the level of your feet. So certainly, you find it very cute, but we must admit that sometimes it is really not practical. Indeed, when he is there, you dare not move your legs (no question of disturbing him in his sleep!). But why does he love this place so much?

    1. It's safer

Your cat is not crazy, he knows perfectly well that you weigh much heavier than him. But if he goes to bed near you and you come to move or to turn you back brutally in the night, there is a good chance that he will be crushed .

So he naturally chooses to sleep in a place where he feels safe , that is to say your feet. Indeed, it is less likely to be sent waltz to the other end of the bed or to be crushed. In addition, it would be much easier for him to escape if you started to become too invasive during your sleep.
Note that our feline friends usually choose the ends of our body to sleep. They can as well lie on our feet as on our head ! Only when they are kittens do they tend to sleep on our chest . Indeed, hearing the beatings of our heart reminds them of their mother and it soothes them.

    2. He loves you

Yes, if your cat accepts that you sleep at his feet (because that's how he sees it), it's also because he likes you. Indeed, you are the person with whom he feels closest , so it is only natural that he snuggles against you.

    3. He feels safe

Not only does your presence reassure him and help him fall asleep, but he also feels protected by your side. He knows he can trust you and that at the slightest threat you will wake him up and do everything to protect him.
And of course, he will do the same for you. This allows him to sleep on both his ears and therefore to really rest.
